Students with Autism
Autism Spectrum Disorders’
Workshops
A series
of five workshops is offered to provide basic knowledge for teachers
and/or paraprofessionals regarding autism spectrum disorders. Topics
include:

Characteristics of Students with ASD
provides knowledge of the five characteristics associated with ASD
including: developmental rates and sequences, social interaction and
participation, communication (verbal and non verbal), sensory
processing, and repertoire of activities and interests

Behavioral Strategies for Students with ASD
provides participants with basic knowledge of positive behavior
supports, applied behavior analysis, and functional behavior analysis as
specifically related to working with students with ASD.

Developing Social Skills for Students with ASD
provides practical strategies for teaching appropriate social skills and
developing appropriate behaviors.

Visually Cued Instruction and Communication
provides participants with basic knowledge of visually cued instruction
and practical applications for its use in the classroom and as a tool
for communication and positive behavior support.

Sensory Issues for Students with ASD
provides basic knowledge of the sensory integration process, sensory
characteristics of students with ASD, behavioral and emotional responses
to sensory stimuli, and interventions for sensory issues. (This
workshop is ½ day.)
Workshops
three through five can be condensed into one brief overview of
instructional strategies for working with students with ASD. Systems may
request any one of the workshops listed or a series of three or five
workshops.
